Received her B.A. in Mathematics from University of Colorado in l952, her M.A.
and PhD. in Psychology from Ohio State University in 1953 and 1956. She was a
Research Psychologist at IBM in New York from l956-59 when she joined the faculty at the
University of Maryland, where she is presently Professor of Psychology. She
spent a postdoctoral year at the Applied Psychology Research Unit in Cambridge, England,
a year visiting at Air Force Human Resources Laboratory at Brooks AFB in Texas,
and has consulted for other federal agencies and private industries. She has
been active in the American Psychological Association in Division 3
(Experimental Psychology) as well as 21 (Applied Experimental and Engineering
Psychology) and was President of Division 21 in 1987. She served as an elected
member of the Board of Directors of the American Psychological Association from 1984
to 1987. She was President of the Eastern Psychological Association, 1984 to 1985.
She has been the Chairman of the Awards Committee for the Human Factors Society, and served
as an ad hoc reviewer for Human Factors. In addition, she was one of the founders
of the American Psychological Society and was active in the Society for several years. She
has published in many journals and in 1987 contributed a chapter to Mary Anne Baker's book,
Sex Differences in Human Performance. Her most recent publications are in the
Proceedings of the Human Factors and Ergonomics Society, Bulletin of
the Psychonomic Society and in Practical Aspects of Memory: Current Research and
Issues. (August 1995) She is currently serving as Newsletter Editor for the new Society for
Applied Research in Memory and Cognition.
