YMaps: Dynamic Query Maps and Decision Processes
New dynamic interfaces are being used for queries of databases. Such queries are often in the
first stage of decision making to reduce the number of items for consideration down to a manageable set.
In this study we are looking at dynamic query maps that allow the decision maker to adjust criteria on the set
to eliminate items that are not in the desired ranges of multiple attributes. Users adjust one variable,
then another, and so one. We are looking at the patterns of these adjustments to determine if
system biases result from the design of the interface and how users handle the problem of tradeoffs between
attributes.
